Shooting her photos at Helen Hunt falls was completely her idea and I think it was the perfect place for her. The snow and the water made a fantastic contrasting element for her dark hair and brown eyes.
She was a really easy model to work with and her bright smile shines in her photos. It was definitely my privilege to shoot her senior portraits.
Last month we took a drive to Glenwood Springs and along the way we stopped at Hanging Lake. The drive from Colorado Springs takes about 3 hours, but the scenery is so breathtaking that it is completely worth it.
The trail from the parking area to Hanging Lake is a rough, boulder strewn, steep hike, but we made it with very little complaining from the children.
To get to the Hanging Lake rest stop on I-70 in Glenwood Canyon you’ll need to exit further west at the Grizzly Creek exit and take the eastbound lane to the Hanging Lake exit. Eastbound vehicles can drive east from Glenwood Springs to the Hanging Lake exit.
From the Hanging Lake rest area, you follow the paved path east for about a quarter mile to a narrow side canyon. From there you follow the rocky incline and wooded paths up 1,000 feet in elevation. The last section of the trail is steep enough to justify metal handrails for safety as a drop-off of more than 100 feet faces anyone who slips off the path.
The hike to Hanging Lake is rough and if you are out of shape, like me, it will take some time, but it is also incredibly beautiful and completely worth the effort. The round trip hike is a little over 2 miles and dogs are not allowed so plan accordingly.
