I’ve spent months, even years, customizing my desktop to suit my needs and my tastes. During that time there are certain applications and customizations that I keep coming back to because of the convenience that they provide.
I’ve been a loyal Windows user since I was first introduced to Windows 3.11 (Windows for Workgroups) back in 1993 and while the operating system has added many new features I always find that I need to groom it to meet my needs and my taste.

This is with nearly everything I use actually running. I couldn't actually get anything done if it was like this all of the time, so I use what I need when I need it. Click the image for a larger view.
This is what my desktop looks like with nearly all of these applications enabled. Keep in mind that very seldom do I actually have them all running. To be precise, I don’t run the news tickers unless I’m really bored or wanted to stay on top of some news story and about half of the icons in my systray aren’t there on an average day. I created this screenshot to show what it looks like with everything running.
